Štěpanice castle used to be a historic centre of the area around Benecko. The first written record of it dates back to 1304.
The establishment of the castle is talked about in context with John von Wallenstein. According to Balbin’s Chronicle, however, Henry John von Wallenstein ruled this area already in 1254. This piece of information is confirmed by archaeological finds in the castle. Today, one can see the ruins of the fortified tower and remnants of the defensive system in place of the former castle.
